DAMAGING SOUTH TO SOUTHEASTERLY WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h are expected to continue about the Border Ranges and parts of the far southeastern coast before gradually easing later tonight. A separate Coastal Hazard Warning for DAMAGING SURF is current for Gold Coast Waters. Locations which may be affected include Coolangatta, Moreton Island, North Stradbroke Island and Springbrook. Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS Issued at 4:59 pm Saturday, 28 September 2024. Emergency services advise people to: * Park your car undercover away from trees. * Close doors and windows. * Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks. * Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out. * Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost. * Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous. * Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area. * Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Saturday. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and emergency services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Damaging Surf conditions which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion is possible about the Gold Coast waters, between Cape Moreton and Point Danger for the rest of today. These conditions are forecast to ease late tonight or early tomorrow morning. A Hazardous Surf Warning is also current for Sunshine and Gold Coast waters for the rest of today, and Gold Coast waters tomorrow. Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Coolangatta, Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island. Tweed Offshore buoy observed a significant wave height of 5.39m at 2:00pm Saturday. Coastal Hazard Warning for DAMAGING SURF Issued at 4:48 pm Saturday, 28 September 2024. Emergency services advise people to: * Know your limitations around beaches, tidal rivers and creeks. Adhere to warning from lifesavers and lifeguards . * If you have a boat or water craft, haul out if possible or check your moorings are secure. * If you have children make sure they are within arm's reach around the water.
